Students and teachers from the Vocational High School of Tourism visited their project partner in Izmir on a tolerance project

The fourth working meeting on the “ACCEPT - Acknowledge, Care, Empathize - Promoting Tolerance” project was held from 3rd to 9th April in the Turkish city of Izmir. The project partners – schools from Poland, Romania, Germany, Turkey and Bulgaria presented their plays on tolerance, which aim at developing empathy and active citizenship. United around the topic of the meeting “Tolerance and Fair Play”, students presented their versions of a Forum Theater and how people understand intolerance.

The project started in 2019 and did not stop its activities even during the pandemic. Despite all difficulties that partners faced, they created a tolerance audio dictionary, “What Tolerance Looks like through My Eyes” movie, puzzles on the topic and bookmarks. A key model of the partnership is the use of the Five Factor Model. This innovative method aims to help raise the level of empathy in adolescents. During the meeting in Izmir, students created their mixed teams in which they drew, had sports activities and debated together. Interactive methods for team building were applied, which students accepted with interest. Lasting friendships were made and many promises were made for new projects and meetings. For the Bulgarian school, the meeting was attended by the students: Ralitsa Luybenova, Daria Hadjiivanova, Inna Nikolova, Todor Nikolov, German Zlatkov and Yordan Yordanov, led by their teachers Valya Pileva, Polya Yankova and Aneliya Staykova. As part of the cultural program of the meeting, all participants visited the ancient city of Ephesus and other sights in the region.

The last working meeting is in store in May in Romania.
