Eichendorff-Gymnasium Ettlingen is a grammar school that intends to lead students to A-levels and prepare them for university. We teach students in Years 5-12, so they are between 10 and 19 years old. There are currently about 750 students and 70 teachers at our school. As we lead our students to A-levels, the focus lies on academic subjects.

All students study German, Maths, Sciences, Humanities and at least two foreign languages, with English being compulsory. Ettlingen is a small old town and many of our students come from small villages in the Black Forest. With this project, we can give them the opportunity to develop tolerance while working with peers from other countries, by thinking about their own opinions and attitudes while listening to and comparing themselves to others –a perfect way. We are convinced that this project, by focusing not only on a cognitive approach to the topic of tolerance, but mainly through art, sports and theatre, is going to be of huge profit for our students who, during their regular lessons at our school, heavily focus on academic studies. We see this as a great opportunity for them to discover new talents and grasp what tolerance means on a deeper, more direct and emotional level. We expect this project to lead to bigger cohesion in our school community and a deeper and better understanding of our partners and the importance of the European Union.
